Hakuba Boden

Neil was great in giving all informations during arrival and during our stay there. He was a superb host, although he was a little delayed in replying msges before our arrival, guess it’s the busy season. Upon arrival, we were thoroughly briefed on the house & on the how to getting to everywhere on the shuttle bus. The beds and comforters was super comfy leaving us craving for more bedtime! The shower water wasn’t that strong and if both the bathroom room was in use, the cold and hot shower might not be very stable. But again, overall it was great. Kitchen was well equipped. Big TV with great channels. We were fetched by Keita to do groceries shopping upon arrival. Great guy that offered lotsa help. Shuttles are only 3 minutes walk from the house. Super easy and convenient. Echo land (bars, restaurants and convenient store) was only within 10mins walk. Neil reccomended Woody’s for ski rental...again superb advise. We were given 10% discount and on top of that, we were chauffeured by Woody’s guy to the shop to choose our rentals and everything was left at the house for collection upon returning. Overall the house n service left us missing Hakuba so much that we vow to return the following year. Great job!!

Hakuba Boden was incredible! We had a group of 7 and the house fit us perfectly. It had a large open plan living area with two large couches and a beautiful central table that gave us enough room to all do our own thing. The house was nice and warm throughout, and the owner has done an incredible job with the fit out with beautiful wallpaper and personal touches throughout as well as two large bathrooms. The fully spec’d kitchen allowed us to cook like we were at home on those nights we were too tired to explore the local restaurants in Echoland and the shuttle bus stops are literally around the corner which made getting the little ones out the door all the more easier. This is our new favourite accomodation, so much so that we have booked again for next year!

Acorn Cottage

The location is great. It’s just in between Happo and Goryu. Five minutes walk to restaurant and free shuttle bus is around the corner. Neil is very friendly and love to share lots of the local tips with you. I’d love to stay here again.

Amazing Location for Hakuba Skiing
This is a great place to stay, especially if you are looking for some top skiing. The bus to the slopes is right on your doorstep, and all the best bars and restaurants (Echoland) are within easy walking distance. The house itself is cosy and has everything you need.

Neil, much appreciate the personal touch. Greatly enjoyed our stay, particulary our few days at Colonsay Cottage.

★★★★★

Beautiful apartment with everything you need for a fantastic holiday. Neil and his team are super helpful and go above and beyond to organise everything from restaurant reservations to supermarket trips! Just be prepared to use taxis or walk 15+ mins to get to the heart of Echoland for restaurants & shuttle transport for skiing.

Beautiful home, excellent staff and great location. Neil and his staff are all so helpful and friendly. There helped is with booking taxis to go to nightlife and helped us with our ski hire. It’s a little walk into Eco land, but buses are close and run hourly to all ski areas. Fabulous! Loved our stay, will be back for sure

— Hidenori, Airbnb guest
The place is really nicely finished - only one bathroom but the toilet is separate which is useful. Really warm and comfortable rooms/beds. About 15 minutes walk to the restaurants and bars of Echoland. 25 minutes to the little shop. The buses to the slopes in the morning could be a little hectic and uncomfortable - BUT if you don’t want to ski one valley you have to do this no matter where you stay (and each ski area is quite small compared to Alps/N America so you will end up getting the bus). Overall the accommodation was great and Neil was really helpful - took us to the supermarket, picked us up from the bus station etc.

Konayuki Cabin Hakuba

★★★★★

We had a fantastic stay at Neil’s cabin. His communication was great, very clear and gave us lots of helpful advice on nearby eateries, how to get around, etc. When we arrived at the cabin we were also met with Neil’s staff who were very knowledgeable about the area and super professional, it really made the stay even more comfortable. The cabin itself is lovely, very clean and comfortable with nice decor. The kitchen is well equipped if you would like to cook inside the house, and the lounge/dining area was large and very nice to relax in after a day on the slopes or have a comfortable place to eat together. The bedrooms were also great, you have the flexibility of having single or double beds in both rooms which suited us perfectly as we opted for two double beds (most Japanese accommodations have single bed options only). The house also has an onsen area/bath inside the shower room, which is a great addition if you don’t want to leave the house. The location of the cabin is fantastic. Situated right in the centre of Echoland, a short 10 minute (max) walk away is the street of little eateries (ramen, cafes, and other food options) which is very convenient. There is also a 711 at the bottom of one of the nearby streets which is also very helpful. In regards to other mountains, this is a well located cabin because it is equadistant to all other Hakuba valley mountains. Our group got a Hakuba Valley pass which enabled us to go to any of the mountains and catch first tracks more easily as we didn’t have to buy a ticket. Note that upselling here doesn’t usually come at a discount, so be sure how many days you will actually ski for to not waste any cash. We had a car as we wanted total freedom to catch first tracks, be able to move easily between mountains and also dine anywhere we wanted around Hakuba. I would 100% recommend a car to anyone that wants the same level of freedom, just make sure you get snow tires and you will be sorted - it was very easy to drive on the snowy roads with them. Also let Neil know that you will have a car so the driveway can be cleared of snow prior to your arrival. However, if public transport is fine for you, there is a bus stop right outside the cabin - a super convenient way to get to the slopes and surrounding areas. I would suggest Hakuba 47 is the nearest slope proximity wise, but we did not attempt to walk there and the car route takes a slight detour - take a bus or drive there. Overall, it was a lovely stay. Thanks Neil, we had a great time! Yasna

Loved the snow covered trees lining all the roads. Not too far of a walk to restaurants and bars. Great place to stay!
— Harry, Airbnb guest
A cosy cabin in the woods with western amenities. We had a wonderful week here with lots of hiking, riding bikes, daily walks and swims in the icy river. We had some extreme weather forecast with Typhoon Jebi but Neil and Hiroko kept us up to date, supplied us with umbrellas and it was great to know they were on hand if need be! Luckily we only encountered some rain. The offer to collect and drop off from the station by Hiroko is a huge bonus and the shopping trips are invaluable! Hiroko was so helpful as she tried to help us find ingredients we needed and explain what all the food options were. Both hosts helped us with local info and booking taxis and trains. A wonderful stay with great hosts!!! Will definitely be back in winter!
— Sabaa, Airbnb guest
If there is a better host in Hakuba, please let me know and I would pay 5x the price. Neil was the perfect host from start to finish. Gave us great hidden recommendations for food and slopes. Available round the clock to reply our every query. Apartment was clean and very nice. Make sure to try Half Note Cafe’s shabu shabu set. Would definitely go back and stay at Neil’s apartment.
— Ryan, Airbnb guest
Konayuki Cabin is the perfect place to stay for a ski trip and getaway. Restaurants, bars and ski rental were all in walking distance and there was a free shuttle to the slopes just outside the cabin. Neil was very helpful with providing transportation to the grocery store and also dropped us to our bus taking us back to the airport. We fit 6 people in the cabin comfortably and all had a great time. Can’t wait to come back!!
— Sammy, Airbnb guest
Neil’s cabin is very clean with modern north european style and it’s perfect for 4 of us.

写真通り、きれいなハウスでした。食事処とスーパーマーケットの双方に恵まれた環境です。 また、ホストの方々には大変親切にして頂きました。ありがとうございました。 fully enjoyed staying this tidy and cozy house! easily access to cafe/restaurants and supermarkets. hosts are nice and kind. we really appreciate their great hospitality. thank you so much:)
— Madoka, Airbnb guest
Thanks Neil & Hiroko. We had a great visit! The pick up and drop off service, plus grocery run were great added touches. The location of the house was also perfect...very close to the Echoland and the free buses to and from the ski resorts. We would all definitely stay here again. Thanks again. We are a group of students stayed in this property for three days two nights. Neil and his assistant, Hiroko, are both really nice and kind and responsible. We had a really great time stayed in Nagano.
— Chin Ying, Airbnb guest
I’d highly recommend Konayuki Cabin to anyone interested in staying in Hakuba - cozy, quiet with everything you need in the kitchen and comfortable beds. Neil was very helpful in our late check-in and answering our many questions.
— Victor, Airbnb guest
Very clean tidy unit, bus stop right out front to get to all the ski resorts. Only a short walk to all the resteraunts and shops in Echoland.
— Jason, Airbnb guest
This cabin was amazing! Very well equiped, newly fitted out and well heated. Was the perfect place to come back to after a day on the mountain to enjoy a hot bath. Neil was so awesome, he collected us from the train station when we arrived and dropped us off at the bus station when we departed. The supermarket shuttle he offers is really great and he was so helpful booking taxis for us due to the language barrier we had with locals :) .. Would highly recommend and will definitely book again! Thank you :)
— Eve, Airbnb guest
Our stay at Konayuki Cabin was outstanding! Neil met us at the train station, drove us to hire skis and snow gear, and we were then picked up for a supermarket trip to stock up for our stay. This meant we could hit the slopes first thing the following morning, and was incredibly convenient. The cabin itself is lovely, cosy with several nice little touches, it accommodated the four of us perfectly. Hakuba is a charming town, and a winter wonderland this time of year! We were within easy walking distance to the restaurants and onsen in Echoland, with taxis around if the weather was bad. There were also free shuttle buses to the slopes with stops a few minutes walk from the cabin. I highly recommend Konayuki cabin for anyone coming to Hakuba and cannot wait to come back!!

Muskoka House

★★★★★

We had a fantastic long weekend at this beautiful house! The location is very nice and quiet but there are restaurants and shops withing 10 minutes of walking distance. The house is just beyond imaginations, it was so nice and clean and light. It is a new house and very well designed. Neil was a super nice host, he picked up and dropped off us from the station. He gave us super tips where to go and what to do. Thank you for everything!
— Ajiko, Airbnb guest
A great modern clean place tucked away in the woods but close enough to enjoy a walk to Echoland. A wonderful house and Neil was an excellent host. Would love to go back.

The house was amazing and the attention that Neil and Hiroko gave us was wonderful too. Hiroko gave us all the options to do around Hakuba. They did a great job cleaning the snow in front of the house to let us go to enjoy the area.
The house had all the things that we needed for cooking, for listening music and the heating was perfect! We will repeat for sure soon! Thank you!

Beautiful house and setting. Very comfortable and stylish. Close to shuttle bus stops and restaurants in Echoland. Neil was extremely helpful and very good at communication.

Super nice place! Stylish house and interior, very new and clean and quiet. Close to restaurants and easy access to lifts. Neil and Hiroko has been very nice/responsive, picking us up from the station and giving a lot local tips! One of the best stays ever! Will definitely come back in the winter!
— Lines, Airbnb guest
I stayed in Muskoka House with my partner and two friends for 10 nights, we had an amazing time. The service Neil provides is impeccable from the pick-up/drop-off to the grocery runs, assisting with rental gear, quick responses to queries, etc. The house is very comfortable, clean and spacious, we even had a mid stay clean. A hot bath after a day on the slopes was soothing before cooking dinner and snuggling up on the couch for some netflix n chill time. The shuttle buses are a 5 minute walk away and Echoland about 15 minutes where the restaurants and bars are. If you are keen you can walk to Happo. Definitely stay again if in Hakuba.
— Emma, Airbnb guest
Great house, great host - who went the extra mile to make our short stay a comfortable one. Recommended.
— Geoff, Airbnb guest
Fantastic, well presented and clean house. The facilities were modern and easy to use. Neal and his team made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. They were happy to help or provide advice whenever we needed. We were there to ski on the nearby mountains. Plenty of powder in early January. The buses to the slopes are only a 5-10min walk away. Would recommend.

We stayed at Muskoka House for two weeks over Christmas 2016. The house is brand new and beautiful. Truly a perfect fusion of East meets West. Although advertised for 4 people, it is very spacious and could easily host a few more while still remaining cozy and comfortable. We were looking for a place where our family could stretch out and enjoy the surroundings in privacy and comfort and Muskoka House delivered. We also were looking for a place specifically designed for an active household. The location of the dryroom and bathroom were ideal for our uses. Plenty of space to store skis and hats and gloves. Ample room to hang coats and ski pants well away from the rest of the house so that we could enjoy the beautiful interior as it was designed to be enjoyed.

The location near Echoland is ideal. Muskoka House is an easy 7 minute walk to the shuttle bus stop for skiing in one direction and a 7 minute walk in the opposite direction to a plethora of eating options such as Sounds Like Cafe, Cherry Pub and Bear’s Cafe in Echoland. But — and here was the main attraction for us — the forest location is just sublime. Very relaxing. Very pristine. The house really was a sanctuary of sorts during our holiday.

Neil and his team are awesome. He is friendly and will bend over backwards to make the holiday a success. I can’t rate his service highly enough. He catered to every need for our family. He provided easy to understand directions for the house and also offers shopping trips should the need arise.

Our visit to Hakuba and Muskoka House was a resounding success in every way. The village itself is wonderful and the options for skiing are amazing. In particular, I enjoyed Iwatake, the wide open slopes and the panoramic view.

If you are looking for a beautiful, comfortable home to stay in while enjoying the best that Hakuba has to offer, I would highly recommend Muskoka House. If you want top-notch concierge service, Neil is your guy.

Hakuba Stugan

★★★★★

Place and hosts were excellent. I can honestly say it is even nicer than the pictures. It is located in a great area of Echo town where it’s quiet, but still close to all the interesting restaurants and bars. Kitchen is well stocked and usable. A nice TV, Speaker, and Apple TV keep the down time enjoyable. The two full baths were really the ace for us. This will be our first pick every time we go to Hakuba.
— Jesse, Airbnb guest
Awesome stay! The house is beautiful and very well equipped. We also very much appreciated the extra measures Neil took to ensure our small children would not face any dangerous situations! Very thoughtful! Lastly, great F&B recommendations. We truly enjoyed our short stay!
— Jan-Arie, Airbnb guest
Seamless check in and check out with all the amenities and home comforts that we needed. It felt like a homecoming for us as we gathered at Hakuba Stugan for the second time. Thanks to the host team for making our stay a great one! Hope to see you again next year!
— Romell, Airbnb guest
This was the first AirBnB which I would love to own myself! :) The house is absolutely beautiful, perfect size for our family of 4. It has three big bedrooms with king size beds, and two bathrooms with toilets; one has a normal shower, the other a Japanese style bathroom. The place is beautifully decorated and the kitchen is perfectly equipped (unlike some other vacation homes). We even found a grater for the wasabi we bought at a wasabi farm. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

Summertime relief!
Beautifully equiped, this a great place to escape sweltering Tokyo- the temperature in Hakuba at this time of year is perfect! The chalet has 2 bathrooms - ideal for a family with teenagers. The bedrooms have extremely comfortable kingsize beds. Upstairs the aircon keeps the whole house cool. Nestled in a leafy street close to Echoland shops and restaurants, my family and I spent 8 blissful days in luxury at Hakuba Stugan and could easily have spent 8 more. We enjoyed a daily routine of swims at Lake Aoki (10 mins drive away) hikes in the mountains (Hakuba Yari Onsen is well worth the trek) and exploring the many delicious restaurants in the area. There is a great little bakery called kobo-nikki that sells an assortment of fresh artisan sough dough bread baked daily and also has a fine selection of local produce. We’ll definitely visit again, there is so much to explore in the region and Hakuba Stugan is the perfect base.

We went at the end of the ski season for a few days and had a great time. The cottage is extremely well decorated and is as appears in pictures. It is located close to public transportation and hotels which makes it easy to call cabs if needed. The hosts were very responsive, picked us up from the train station, took us grocery shopping and helped us plan activities during our stay. Echoland itself is very cute and has great restaurant option! Would definitely stay there again. Thanks for such a great time!
— Christina, Airbnb guest
The house looks exactly as seen in the pictures. The kitchen was well equipped. Love the Scandinavian decoration style. Ease of checking-in and checking-out. Very happy with two bathrooms. Great location.
— Jitjan, Airbnb guest
Neil’s place is beautiful. The rooms were stylish and comfortable. The kitchen was very functional, well-equipped and had some of the nicest crockery that we have ever seen at an AirBnB. Neil was friendly and we really appreciated his help to book restaurants for us ahead of our stay. Our family had a car and that made commuting between the chalet and the slopes easy and fuss-free.
— Sze, Airbnb guest
Hakuba Stugan is a lovely property that is well suited to a small party. It is incredibly well located due to its proximity to Hakuba ski bus stops and to the main Echoland commercial street. We very much enjoyed our stay there.

Very thoughtful arrangement. The three bedrooms are equally spacious and the fact that it has two bathrooms is great. There are many equipment and games that made our stay convenient and relaxing. Very thoughtful host.

The stay is awesome. Neil is warmhearted that he recommended some good places and restaurants at the first day. He’s nice and he replied to the email in time. The house is beautiful and it has almost anything I want. The position of it is also convenient, only ten minutes’ walk to the stores and restaurants. I love the journey and the house.

Outstanding! This place reminded me of the classic Castle movie saying. “It’s not a house... it’s a home!” It was the most darling house to relax after a long day on the slopes.
— Lindsay, Airbnb guest
We loved this place so much. Great value and perfect location. Buses a few minutes walks away take you to various snow fields or the town centre - these are free. We loved the ski field Saka Slope (I think it’s called) for the great kids area and the yummy curry :-)
— Amanda, Airbnb guest
We had a great stay at this cosy Chalet! Neil was extremely helpful throughout our visit, he even arranges for shopping trips etc. The location is central to downtown Echoland with heaps of great restaurants and bars only a short walk away. We will be sure to book with Neil again he is a fantastic host we did not want to leave Hakuba or the house! Thanks again Neil!
— Tabitha, Airbnb guest
Very nice kitchen and cooking facilities. Upstairs kitchen/living area and 3 bedrooms downstairs was nice layout. Living area and dining area big enough for 6 people. If you have small children, let Neil know so he can provide a barrier along the handrail and stairs. Stairs are steep for young children. Neil was very attentive and helped in every way from timely pick-up, shopping trips to supermarkets, and immediately responding to our requests.

We stayed at this property for a week in September and have already booked to come back in winter. We were a group of six adults and the cottage suited us perfectly. 3 spacious bedrooms , a huge kitchen and two bathrooms. Basically everything we needed was there. Neil the manager went out of his way to share his local knowledge with us. The house is so well located right in the trees but within walking distance to the cafes. Loved the decor , very stylish yet cosy. Can’t recommend it enough.

Best stay ever
Last year we stayed in a cottage managed by Neil and it was so good we came back again. This year our group was bigger and we stayed at colonsay cottage also managed by Neil.
It’s in a great location and has everything you need to have a great stay.
The place is beautifully decorated, lots of space for all of us to eat together after a full day of skiing and then relax on comfortable sofas and watch movies on the TV, plus it’s easy to watch many different stations (Netflix etc) & listen to music via Apple TV. There’s excellent wifi.
Also lots of space to dry all our ski gear and clothes washed in a great washing machine.
No stress for food as Neil or one of his great team pick you up and take you food shopping & help you navigate the Japanese super markets.

Unfortunately one of our group had a ski injury and all the stress was taken away as Neil knew the clinic to take us to to get it sorted.
So in summary the cottage is great but the care and support Neil and his team provides ensures you feel safe when you are a long way from home.
We will be back next year.
Thanks so much Neil

Wonderful House!
We had a fantastic stay at the Colonsay Cottage. The owner is extremely accommodating and was very quick to respond to us whenever we needed anything and was incredibly helpful. The house itself is wonderful: newly renovated with high ceilings, brand new furniture and appliances, and very clean. The kitchen has a full size oven, a big refrigerator, pots, dishes, and everything else you may need, even wine and sake glasses! We love to cook so really enjoyed cooking meals here and there is a full size dining room table as well. The owner also was very kind in offering trips to the grocery store when we needed since we didn’t have a car. Another thing we really enjoyed about the house is it had tons of big windows so there is plenty of natural light and we loved watching it snow outside and enjoying the view of the trees and mountains! The view of the mountains on a clear day was particularly pretty. The house is set in a cute forested part of Hakuba, with a little trail right out back so we could walk to Happo lift. There is also a little street with some restaurants, cafes, and a convenience store just a short walk away as well. Originally we weren’t sure what area in Hakuba to stay in, and after exploring, this was our favorite location in Hakuba. In addition, there is a hotel next door that has a nice outdoor onsen you can use for a fee too which we enjoyed. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would love to go back!

The position was excellent within easy walking distance of restaurants and cafes, and a handy onsen located at the hotel across the road. Neil was responsive and helpful and provided maps and information to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

We had a geat time with our friends at Neil‘s place. The cottage is very cosy with an open kitchen and living room, the amenities are truely fantastic, you won‘t miss anything! The cottage is nicely located in a quiet environment yet close to Echoland. Neil offers pick-up and transportation for shopping etc, however we recommend to bring your own car for more flexibility and easier access to the skilifts. Cozy, comfortable and filled with natural light
We loved our stay at Colonnsay Cottage, a newly refurbished home with beautiful amenities, lots of natural light and beautifully redone. Quiet, beautiful scenery, ample parking space. Everything inside is new - bathrooms, showers, kitchen, etc. Not only was the location quite central, it is right next to a hotel with an onsen - 2 min stroll to a hot soak! We definitely plan to stay there again.

We loved the views from the house, and staying there, so comfortable. We loved being close to the free snow shuttle. It was a 15 min walk to restaurants which may be a problem in cold weather for some.

Hakuba in the summer time is so much more beautiful than we had expected
Stayed in the cottage for 5 weeks in May/June.This is a recently renovated home with high ceilings finished to a very high standard. The house is really spacious and is extremely well furnished with everything required for you to enjoy your stay. In one of the bathrooms there is a rain shower and traditional Japanese bathroom with a lovely deep bath to soak in.. The two bathrooms make getting ready easy. The kitchen was so well equipped to the point that we were surprised at what we could find in the cupboards. The design of the house exudes a really cosy atmosphere which makes you feel as if you are in your own home. A large LCD TV with Apple TV was a nice touch with lots of DVD’s to watch after being out all day .Neil was a great host to us. He is a very approachable and friendly person with lots of local knowledge. He gave us a thorough tour of the house, showing us where everything was and how to work the appliances. It was a lovely holiday and if we ever visit Hakuba again we will definitely stay in Colonsay Cottage.

Hakuba Cottage - great place to stay!
We stayed at Hakuba Cottage in Jan 2015 for 9 nights. The cottage is very clean and comfortable with all the amenities that you would need (even Wifi to keep the teenages happy). The ski shuttle stop is handy and Ecoland restaurants are a short stroll. Neil is very helpful and is happy to assist with any reservations for buses/tours etc and arranges to take guests to the supermarket every other day - really couldn’t be more helpful! The cottage and the general Hakuba area is so pretty, not to be missed. I highly recommend staying at Hakuba Cottage!

Beautiful Cottage - Great Location
This cottage was absolutely stunning in every way. Myself and 4 friends stayed in the cottage for 8 nights and never could of imagined it to be as beautiful as it turned out to be. The snow can be seen from inside the heated cottage on almost every wall of the house through the wall-size windows. Apple TV provided was very useful to us.
The cottage was within 5-10 minute walk of “Echoland” which includes many bars, restaurants and convenience stores. It is also located across the road from a snow shuttle bus stop so very convenient for skiers and snowboarders.
The owner Neil was extremely friendly and helpful. He provided us with assistance in many more ways than expected.
I would 100% recommend this to anyone staying in Hakuba and really can’t explain how beautiful the area is.
If I return to Hakuba in future travels this cottage will be my number 1 preference.
Thanks so much for your amazing hospitality Neil :)

Exceeded expectations
Hakuba cottage exceeded our expectations in every respect. Located within the beautiful Misorano forest, it was only a short walk to the shops and restaurants of Echoland’s main street. (Echoland is one of a number of discrete areas within Hakuba Valley and a favourite with international tourists.) The ski jump from the 1998 Winter Olympics can be be seen through the trees from the master bedroom. Buses to the various ski resorts in Hakuba Valley stop within a few hundred meters of the cottage. The closest and largest ski resort is Happo One - a 10 minute bus trip.
The cottage itself was perfect for our party of 3 - two large and well furnished bedrooms, comfortable lounge and dining area (japanese style); compact well equpped kitchen (right down to coffee machine and wine decanter) and excellent entertainment system with library of movies and TV shows, all in English. The cottage has a nice homely feel with Japanese elements and a lovely outlook to the forest and other cottages in the street. Everything worked and the cottage was very clean and well maintained.
The owner Neil lives nearby and couldn’t do enough to help, including recommending restaurants and ski hire, driving us to the supermarket to buy supplies; driving us to the bus station to catch the bus on our final day; and going so far as finding hotel accommodation for us in Nagano when we became stranded after all train and bus services to Tokyo were cancelled as a result of severe snow storms across Japan.

Neil is Scottish but has lived in Japan for the last 20 years and is fluent in Japanese- a great help when you have no idea what you are buying at the supermarket. Neil owns 2 other properties in the same street as the cottage which are also available for holiday letting - perfect for families holidaying together. Overall, a great package and good value. We would have no hesitation recommending Hakuba cottage.

Beautiful cozy cabin near spectacular hiking.
We stayed two nights at Hakuba Cottage. The cabin itself is very stylish and cozy. The setting is very peaceful and conducive to a relaxing stay. The cabin has been outfitted with all the modern conveniences and particular attention has been paid to the little details that made the weekend so enjoyable. Neil was wonderful. Very attentive to our needs and helpful in pointing us in the right direction. We would return to Hakuba Cottage in an instant. Great place to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Hakuba itself is a gem. The hiking was awesome. I can imagine that the skiing is just as spectacular. Would love to come back in the winter.

Tranquil spring weekend at Hakuba Cottage
We made a weekend trip to Hakuba Cottage in early May as a break from Tokyo and to give our 3-year-old a few days in the countryside. We arrived late at night, and though the outside temperature was around zero degrees celcius, the cottage was warm and cosy. The days were warm and we enjoyed a couple of Bbq’s on the lovely terrace as well as a number of walks around the local area. The cottage is very tastefully decorated, offering western comfort and convenience combined with traditional Japanese elegance. All amenities - internet connection, hot water etc, work fine and the kitchen is very well equipped. The double bed upstairs is particularly comfortable. There is plenty of opportunity for long walks outside with stunning views of the mountains. A number of shops, cafes and bakeries are within walking distance, or a short drive. We had a wonderful three days at Hakuba Cottage and would not hesitate to recommend it, either as a base for exploring the area, or as somewhere to spend a restful day or two away from the city. We are planning another trip there next spring.

The Cottage was a warm, clean and tidy home that we soon made our own.
We stayed at the Hakuba Cottage for two weeks January. We are a family of two adults and two primary school aged children.
Right from our first contact with Neil I knew we had found a great place to stay. He was friendly in all communications and provided a wealth of information that helped heaps with our planning. He was quick to respond to emails.
When we arrived in Hakuba we were greeted by Neil as we got off the bus. Neil then spent the next few hours with us taking us to the supermarket and assisting with any purchases given the language barrier, he drove us around the village showing us where restaurants, cafe, onsen, bus stops etc were. When we arrived at the Cottage it was to a warm, clean and tidy home that we soon made our own. There was a great amount of information in the cottage on how to work things in the house and information on the area and what services were available. Neil was easily contactable when we had any additional questions.
We were offered to be taken to the supermarket on three set days each week and this was a great service with always a friendly face to accompany us. The Cottage was serviced with fresh linen and a quick clean every 4-5 days which was always done at a time that was convenient to us.
The Cottage is an easy stroll to local restaurants. It is very conveniently placed for the shuttle service to the ski slopes. The Cottage was always warm and everything we needed, and more, was there.
We HIGHLY recommend staying at the Hakuba Cottage. It was good value, great service and we loved every minute of it. We hope to be back there again soon.

Everything you would possibly want was supplied - all the comforts of home.
It’s a terrific home away from home. Apart from food, everything you need is supplied. Wonderful beds to sleep on, great heating, plenty of room for 2 adults & 2 teenagers - who want/have their own space upstairs. Neil is a lovely host. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Madori took us shopping a couple of times which was fantastic. We will definately be back.

A Cozy Escape in the Mountains
My husband and I first stayed at the cottage with our large dog in December 2013. After that, we’ve been so hooked on the mountains and the comfortable stay provided at the cottage, that we have since come up multiple times and are planning on staying here throughout the year. Neil stocks the cottage with whatever you’d need and clears the driveway when mother nature snows you in.

The location is excellent. Echoland is the place to stay in Hakuba, and the cottage is basically at the base of Happo-one and Hakuba 47 — both are very short drives away.

It’s so nice to find a place that can feel like home as soon as you walk in that also lets you bring your dog. My husband and I (and our dog) love it here!

If you’re considering renting this cottage, I can only highly recommend it.

The perfect cottage in the perfect location
When travelling to Hakuba the big question is where to stay. The town and ski areas are quite spread out and getting between them is a hassle. I am so glad that we chose Echoland and Hakuba Cottage. Nestled in the Misorano Forest the cottage is a couple of hundred metres from the restaurants and shops of Echoland’s Main Street, with two onsens at either end of the street. It couldn’t have a better location. Buses to two ski areas drive down the street while most others have a stop only a block away. The house itself is stylish, warm and brilliantly fitted out with both bedrooms being large and comfortable with great views out into the forest. The owner lives locally and takes care to ensure that your stay goes without a hitch, he was fantastic during our stay, checking we had what we needed, even organizing taxis for us when required. Can’t speak highly enough of this property.

Will go back in 2015
Beautifully appointed and very cosy house in Echoland. 10 minute walk to bars, restaurants and shuttle bus stops. Awesome location. Neil, the owner, is very helpful and will book restaurants, taxis etc on request. Lightning fast wifi, more Apple TVs than you’ll ever need; the great Nespresso machine which makes better coffee that Sounds Like Cafe. Highly recommended. You will even see squirrels foraging in the trees. Thanks Neil for all your help in Hakuba.

Great quality accommodation
Stayed at Hakuba Cottage during Golden Week. Very high standard accommodation. Comfortable, and really well equipped . (2 huge TVs , high end coffee machine, Free high speed wifi.) Another day in Paradise at Hakuba Cottage Momoji
I know this accomodation won the 2013 Trip Advisor award, but still, it went above my expectation. The house is exactly as described and in the pictures. But the little touches that Neil have put in (3 apple TV with shows, Wii, fully equpped kitchen, nice warm heaters, etc) make our stay awesome!

Neil and his crew (Midori and Omi) make our stay so comfortable with the scheduled grocery runs every 2 days and helping out with tour bookings and arrangement that you feel like having bespoke service in a 5 star service apartment!

Neil, thanks for the hospitality and i hope to be back very soon again!

Excellent villa to spend holidays!!
I stayed at the cottage with my parents last summer for five days. The location, supplies, beds, terrace, atmosphere,cleanliness...everything met our expectations. The owner/manager not only made us feel welcomed and at home but also gave us many tips of advice to optimize our time in Hakuba. Enjoying coffee In the morning and drinks evening on the wood deck was the best moment to enjoy the tranquility of the place!!! Moreover, some onsen (hot spring) is only several minute away for onsen lovers. For both foreigners and Japanese, I would strongly recommend this cottage and can assure everybody that you would never regret it!!!

Wonderful house in Hakuba.
We spent a week in this house in Hakuba in October. For a three week holiday this was the highlight. We were staying in business hotels in Tokyo and other places, so it was great to be able to unpack everything and not live out of a suitcase. Also the house has excellent laundry facilities.

The house was very spacious with an indoor dining area and an outdoor dinning table on the veranda. The kitchen is a gallery kitchen but it has everything you would need. For groceries there is a supermarket near the train station, a Lawson’s closer and a convenient store closer still. It’s on the main street. Look for a neon sign saying Jah Jah and two golden Labradors. On our arrival Neil kindly took us down to the supermarket in his car to get most of the weeks groceries.

There are two bedrooms that sleep two people each but there is also a futon that could be used down stairs if you move over the dinner table. The house has one of those Japanese baths with the high sides but it’s longer and more comfortable that the ones you get in most Tokyo hotels.

The house is in an area called Echoland. It is well served by restaurants and shops. The main street with most of the restaurants is a 5 minute walk from the street with the house. There is a nice river-walk near the house that leads up to the mountains. Also the gondola station that takes you to Happo Ike or the ski slopes is also within walking distance. We weren’t there for the winter season though.

We have no problem recommending this house for people to stay in. The Hakuba area is beautiful and Neil is very accommodating if there are any issues. We hope to return to Hakuba in the next few years and would definitely book this house again.

Lovely place in a lovely part of the world.
Stayed at Hakuba Cottage a few times over the last few years with my wife.
Beautiful place in the woods, just enough off the beaten track to feel like you’ve really been away, yet relatively easy to get to from Tokyo by bullet train and a bus from Nagano, or a 4-hour drive from Tokyo.
Best steak house in the world at the bottom of the hill though I forget the name.
Super little bakery within walking distance.
I get the feeling this is a very popular area in winter for the skiing. The Olympic ski-jump is literally jumping distance away!
We’ve always gone in late spring or late summer when the walking is better. We plan to go next year and investigate the local river fishing.

The best accommodation in the best ski village in Japan
This is a great stay.
Hakuba is a top location winter, summer or autumn. We have stayed there in all of these seasons (our escape from Tokyo) and this is the best accommodation on offer. It is located just a short walk from Echoland (be sure to check out Sounds Like Cafe). It is best enjoyed if you have your own vehicle (4WD in winter) but it is close to the ski busses if you need them.
The accommodation is well set up with quality furniture and fittings. A good it network with a selection of English movies to fill in the evenings (if you have any energy left). The kitchen is fine for anything you want to cook ( we put on the full Christmas dinner).
Enjoy.

Absolutely outstanding in every way.
Best decision ever to choose this rental. Neil went above and beyond for us from picking us up and dropping us off from the bus stop, organizing lift tickets and gear rental and even shopping for groceries. The house itself was cosy and warm, very welcoming and beautifully funished.
here are your top 10 reasons to book this property.
1. overall service and help from Neil himself, what a nice guy to deal with.
2. supermarket runs every second day with Midori who helped us find all food items as well as shoes, gloves ect..
3. five minute walk to great restaurants
4. very pretty location and bus stop to ski fields in the same street as the house
5.Nespresso machine for great morning coffee
6. washing /dryer combination
7. awesome shower after long days out
8. TV had heaps of recorded shows to watch and DVD player
9. space in the bathroom for drying snow gear ready for next day
10. free Wi Fi - handy for so many reasons
Proximity to ski fields and the amount of snow, especially powder snow makes Hakuba a dream spot and this property in Echoland will get you to Hakuba 47, Gyoru or Happo one very easy.
Don’t hesitate at all, you have made the right decision, just book it!
Thankyou again Neil, we had a very memorable vacation.

Absolutely perfect
We had the best time staying at Hakuba Yukimatsu Cottages. Neil the host was so helpful, from picking us up at the bus station, to helping us book and collect our ski gear, and even providing a hairdryer one night when we needed one. Neil and his assistant Midori were so friendly, they gave plenty of useful advice on the area, where to eat and drink, and even took us on trips to the supermarket. Nothing was too much trouble and this made all the difference to our stay. The cottage itself had everything you could ask for, was cozy and stylish, had full amenities and was in a great location - just a short walk from the main street. We will definitely be back next year!

Great Stay - Again !
Stayed at the cottage for 8 days with a family of 4, including 2 children aged 5 and 7. Everyone had a fantastic time. The house is located in a quiet area but with great bus connections to all the main Hakuba ski areas. The bus stops are across the street from the house. Shopping and restaurant options are all walking distance and the owner organizes grocery trips several times a week to help get supplies back from larger supermarkets. The cottage itself is well laid out with all the required equipment. This is our 2nd stay...and hopefully not the last.

Cosy cottage , short walk to Echo Land.
Neil was very accommodating with showing us around the area and explaining what to do, where to go to get the most out of a great Hakuba Ski holiday.
The cottage was very neat and tidy having a recent complete renovation. Shower and bath were brilliant (very important after a big day on the slopes) and whilst winding down after an action packed day, the Apple TV had a great range of western movies and TV shows to choose from.
Highly Recommended.

Very similar in layout to the Hakuba Cottage Momiji just up the road, and the same comments apply generally. The kitchen is slightly larger.

Superb home in quiet, beautiful wooded area close to restaurants
This is a recently renovated, high ceiling home finished to a high standard on a wide street that affords wonderful morning sunlight. It is cozy, comfortable and easy to spend time in. Kid friendly and with a great kitchen that comes with coffee, filters, spices, etc etc so you don’t need to buy a hundred items you’ll throw away five days later. Excellent and responsive Japanese speaking western management. The location is perfect in that the kids can play in the street and ride bikes without a car coming by for nearly an hour at times yet we could walk ten minutes into Echoland, the main street with all the restaurants. Small cafes and lodges pepper this heavily wooded neighborhood. We rented in July and would have rented it for the ski season but understand it filled up in June - which makes total sense. I toured quite a few homes in the area and there are very few of this size and quality. If you have four or more people in your group you would regret staying in a local hotel/lodge after seeing this home.
Wifi speeds ... 160 mb/s.. all fiber optic. Apple TV allowed the kids to watch movies using our own Apple ID.

Awesome experience
It was our first time skiing in Japan and we did not know what to expect staying in a chalet. But we were taken away by the fantastic atmosphere, with a lot of Scandinavia mixed in with a bit of Japan, and all the modern and very functional facilities. By the way, our wonderful and most helpful host Neil doesn’t speak English as noted in an earlier review, he speaks Scottish (and Japanese).

Hakuba Huset is the best
Being the first guests in this newly renovated mountain lodge was truly an experience. This uniquely Japanese designed wooden structure with its enormous beams and columns exposed mixed with its new stylish interior gives you a sense of Japan mixed with Scandinavia. Hakuba Summertime Adventure in stylish luxury
Lush and green, Hakuba in the summer time is so much more beautiful than we had expected. We are keen hikers and there are many walks to explore in the alpine region, June/July is the perfect time to see the many different species of wildflowers that are in bloom - Hakuba Huset was the perfect base to experience a unique part of Japan. The house itself has such a lovely welcoming, traditional feel with modern appliances (including a bluetooth sound system), and a superb kitchen with everything you could possibly need. We loved starting the day before a big hike with our filter coffee on the balcony & after a day in the mountains we couldn’t wait to get back to the house to relax. The house itself is surrounded by forests but still close to Echo Land where the local restaurants are so good & an easy walk or drive away. If you like your art, design & cooking then there’s plenty of books to keep you entertained before you even look up from the large, coffee table. The apple tv is a bonus & it’s easy to log into your own apple account for movies and tv shows. This is a stylish, very comfortable & extremely relaxing holiday house that we would book again in a heartbeat.

We are going back to Jumoku House for the 3rd time!
We are so looking forward to spend out 3rd Christmas at the Jumoku House. The family friendly environment is a big plus for our family with 2 teenagers as there is sufficient space for everyone to chill; the spacious family room allow each of us to get on with our own thing while being together in one space. Excellent facilities in the house including an onsen. Though we also enjoy going to a bigger outdoor onsen which is within walking distance. The Jumoku House is away from the hustle and bustle but is still very much connected with the rest of the Hakuba night life. Taxi is so easy to travel around. The management provides a lot of help with the planning, travelling and getting rental of equipment.

My stay at Jumoku House provided my friends and I an unforgettable experience. Neil was a 5 star host that was willing to respond to any issues we had during our stay at the house. Overall, Jumoku House is a warm, friendly and comfortable environment that fully captures what it means to have a holiday in Hakuba.

They made everything they could to ensure our holiday became a memory for life. Thanks Fredrik & family

This house is worth the extra cost. The upstairs area is perfect for a group, we have 4A and 4C, and there is still enough space for people to do there own things there, with seating areas both in the kitchen, dining and lounge areas. The foosball table is certainly an added bargain for the kids. Having its own large toilet upstairs was great also. The kitchen is well appointed, lots of equipment to have no problems feeding our group, and guests too, and a big fridge allowing plenty of space. The room at the bottom of the stairs, queen bed, is quiet and large, with a great ensuite, as does the other king room at the end of the passage. Both were perfect retreats for both sets of parents from the 4 kids. They took over the bunk room, and the beds are HUGE, and have their own lights and storage on each, which was perfect. There is a little play area here also, and has a TV, but only takes DVD’s some bring some if you think you will use this. The kids had a separate shower and toilet rooms, so we really had a great layout for us. The washing machine and dryer worked great, and were well used. The private Onsen, what can we say, its lovely, and the double shower in this area also, made it a popular room. Be careful, after a busy day on the hills, the relax in the bath can make it VERY hard to be motivated to do anything else afterwards...just sleep...we loved it. There is plenty of toiletries everywhere that you might need. One of the best things about this house is the level of service. Neil was able to help us with anything we needed, they have a scheduled shopping trip every 2nd day which is brilliant, and the pick-up and drop off was really well arranged and efficient. We could not say enough about Neil as goes far beyond just a house manager, and really makes you feel like staying with friends.

10/10, 5 stars, Highly Recommended, Gorgeous
We stayed at Jumoku House in January 2016. We were a group of 8 including 2 children. We stayed for 5 nights. We loved the place so much we wished we had booked for longer.

From the time we booked the accomodation to the time we left, the owner Neil was outstanding. Having never travelled to Japan before and I had 100+ questions, and that was before we even arrived. Neil was extremely helpful and answered all our questions in detailed emails and text messages.

Having 2 children, I needed to ensure we had food available when we arrived that first night. Neil arranged for all my shopping to be done which was a blessing.

The home itself is AMAZING! IMMACULATE! GORGEOUS! SPACIOUS!

The house had everything we needed and perfectly heated. The onsen was a standout. You have to try it! The beds were super comfy too.

Neil was only too happy to arrange lifts to and from the ski fields including a lift to get fitted for all our ski equipment. Snow fields are super close!

The home is very close walking distance restaurants. (Remember to book ahead if you can for dinner - when we went it was busy at night and we couldn’t get in for an early meal for the kids).

I highly recommend staying at this property and Neil will do everythng he can to ensure you have a great stay.

Thank you again Neil, it was a holiday of a life time.
